SBBB- 'Let's be honest, last night was fucking disappointing. Man Utd were there for the taking, but we were not brave enough.'

100% this. We gave it away from the very first minute by approaching it like that Liverpool game and letting them entirely dictate how the game went. Inexplicable tactics against a weak side.

We've got to seek to bring in at least two decent strikers over the summer.

Everybody knows this. A Premier League side that wants to compete for European football needs at least three decent/half-decent strikers in its squad. We have good striker - and he needs a new pair of hamstrings - and no back up at all.

I'm not going to criticise Yarmolenko because he is not a natural striker. It's better that we judge him as a wide-forward or attacking midfield player.

Let's be honest, last night was fucking disappointing. Man Utd were there for the taking, but we were not brave enough.

But we're doing OK. This season is still a vast improvement on what has gone before. So let's keep some perspective. There are many things to work on and improve - and yet we're sixth in the league.

I'm bitterly disappointed that we will now get to at least 42 years (next year) without a major trophy. But we are moving forward slowly under Moyes. We all know where the next big improvements must come from.

The 1 shot we had on target, was that the Wan-Bissaka attempt?

Fraser

Spot on! A lot of his passing is high risk so obviously some will go astray. Without him yesterday we didnt make a pass to try and open them up at all.

I would have thought in the moment Martial was thinking about scoring and then protecting himself from injury. Cant see anyone in that situation at that speed thinking of damaging an opponent.

Two or three forward balls from Benrahma a game look shit.

The ball that Soucek scored from against Villa was sublime, if Soucek doesn't make the run that ball also looks shit.

Theaxeman spot on. The plan was literally to park the bus, not even risking losing the ball in the counterattacks and hoping we'd score from a set piece.. I'm fine with playing defensively against stronger teams but we need to have a few pacy ball carriers who can do some damage on the counters and I don't think Noble or Fornals fit that profile

I've been looking at the challenge that caused Oggy to limp off (I just hope it isn't a long term injury as he's been immense this season)

I thought Martial deliberately raised his studs to collide with his ankle

Does anyone share that view ?

I blame Rice 100% He should apologise profusely to the fans and sign a 10 year extension to his contract as a way of amends with immediate effect.

If you set up like we did its inevitable you wont have a shot on target! Quite honestly for all our heroic defending they had far more chances and Fabianski kept us in with two tremendous saves.

That's very true, theaxeman.

That's not going to make Rice feel much better, though.

Sir Alf 11:54 Wed Feb 10

Have to agree Alf. Right now we are punching well above our weight due to a lot of hard work on the part of coaching staff and players. We are certainly worth a top half finish and anything better than that would be wonderful. But let's not get carried away, it will take several seasons of consistent, thoughtful investment to get us seriously challenging for a top 4 place. Right now we are simply not tooled up for both league and FA cup challenges, let alone European football.

Rice was fucked he had run his bollocks off! He did loose the ball but it was a long way from our goal. As someone said no goal threat at all.

Re: ⚽ Man Utd v West Ham - Official Match Thread FT 1-0
"We lost because Rice miscontrolled the ball once, ruining an otherwise good performance by him."

Had we had more of a goal threat, Rice probably wouldn't have felt the desperation to bomb on himself, to try and force something up front. Consequently, he's caused himself to fuck up and make himself look bad. It's situations like this that will make his decision to fuck off sooner, a lot easier.

Vexed 2:59 Wed Feb 10

I have no doubt that Benny has the ball in him, it's just that he has nobody making intelligent runs to aim at most of the time. Pair him up with a couple of teammates with a bit of nous and he'll fly. As it is he has Antonio or Brown to aim for mostly who are workers not thinkers.

Fair point, Vexed. You've got to wonder how much of it is down to the lack of intelligent movement ahead of the likes of Benrahma, Fornals etc. I'm not yet convinced by Benrahma. He seems to flatter to deceive more regularly than unlock teams. But, naturally, I want him to rip it up. He's clearly got good technical skills.

A lot of agonising over this performance.

I'm still happy that we have rediscovered that rare once-in-a-decade thing; a West Ham team that puts in the hard graft.

We have limited resources because of years of mismanagement. We have no recognised striker because we shipped out Haller when we had a chance.

Last night we ended up with one hand tied behind our backs because of injury. Typical West Ham to be the first club to have a concussion substitute - and it be for a substitute!

Someone actually managed to blame Benrahma for Rice's bad touch.
